Lightning arrestors, despite what many people believe, don’t protect your device from a direct lightning strike. Their purpose is to discharge static electricity that builds up in the atmosphere and redirect currents from nearby strikes, which can induce a charge in your antenna.
When you install a lightning arrestor properly with a ground wire running directly into the ground, it helps send as much charge as possible into the ground since that's the path of least resistance. It can reduce most static but will introduce some dB loss.
If you want extra protection, you could add a lightning rod with a direct ground cable, hoping the strike follows that path. But nothing is going to save a Wingbits device from a direct hit. We’re talking about 30,000 amps on average, if it takes a direct strike, it’s done.
In the end the arrestor is one of those “peace of mind” devices. And home insurance may require it, check your local one. You will probably sleep better knowing you have one. But your device will be cooked regardless of a direct strike.
@JAMBAJUICE There’s a group of people like myself who just buy everything that’s new, even when there’s not much information. Reason why because we can farm so many tokens/points. But we end up taking the biggest risks since there’s little about the projects. By the time tokenomics come out you might of missed the lucrative rewards. Or saved yourself from a scam.

I think most of them are complete sell outs. There’s a few I do like which include GrumpyDad He’s how I found out about Defli (scam project unfortunately) which then turned me onto Wingbits 2 years ago I think, when you can build DIY units. I’ve noticed I hate influencers more and more as they push more sponsored garbage to milk commissions.
@bob_carsyn nxtchain. The site should be live by the end of the month.
@Yakob It is very fun to use. Everyone stares looking at it while driving. That suction thing you have is a good solution. How much did that cost you? And you have the perfect roof with the top that comes off easy to run the wires through there. Wonder does the rain creep in like that?

Mine are still online. But if they go offline I couldn’t care less. They don’t earn much anyways.
Where did you find the typos? It’s in their docs or some physical paper? Do you have a photo of it

@dbome You saved yourself, the Cudis ring feels so cheap and plasticky, like @irreverent_sol mentioned.

The rewards are here!

Existing edge users will be put into the bronze plan which means you will earn 10ATH/day
If you want to boost your rewards you will have to stake more tokens. As more people stake to climb tiers your ATH earned would drop.
I bought units back in Season 1. And to be fair, they gave the early people like me an absurd amount of tokens compared to what you can earn now. It seems to be working. But I hear there are tokenomics changes coming soon so I would hold till that.

I use Mining-dutch and viabtc.
No real reason other than those are just the two I picked.
I would do solo on the bitaxe. Just set the pool to solo and hope for the best. It’s more fun knowing you might wake up to a little over 3btc, vs earning a couple cents if that per day.
I would hold off buying until the docs for how the staking works come out. Theres too many unknowns that can really screw the ROIs. They said sometime this week we will have the document on the staking. Better to wait than blow 1.8k 🙏

There is no post edit ATM, I keep asking for it. Especially because the formatting gets screwed up half the time I post. 😭
I came here to complain about this too, its not clear how to reply to a comments reply. wen fix
My opinion on some of the brands:
The nano 3s psu gets hot as hell. People already had them catch on fire/burn out. It was a very easy setup and “apple” like unboxing
The BYTE. Buggy as hell, I never had a more rough time setting a ASIC up. I got it running in the end. Very low hashrate for the money, I’m not a fan. I’ve seen dead PSU already in support. They are also noisy compared to other machines of similar hashrates.
Fluminer, had zero problems setting them up. Doing a firmware update was a little weird but got it working in the end. Been smooth sailing since.
Volcminer, had zero problems setting them up. No concerns either.
Elphapex and Iceriver, I never set one up yet so cannot talk about it too much.
What above doesn’t make it sound like they like decentralization? Nodes would be placed in peoples homes, and the critical uptime nodes in datacenters around the world, keeping the decentralized concept. The HW specs are similar to DeEEP.
I also don’t think something being decentralized is a big deal. As long as it’s working and revenue is coming in.
If anything decentralization is a hurdle for most projects because the leaders cannot make decisions on their own and get slowed down by community arguments. imo

Almost all of these projects make money by selling the hardware initially. Even if they say they dont, it funds building the project more until vc money rolls in. Nubila has mentioned before it wont be unlimited devices per location at some point in the future. So people can farm tokens sure, but they will get screwed with all the extra hardware in their possession. The plantwatch example is a perfect example how it turns into a shitshow. I like the wingbits system of 1 unit per giant hex. You can tell they thought about it and not just to sell hardware but more spread the coverage without overlapping too much. My 2 cents
If you have that many connections. You should be raking in the data transfer rewards and earn more? What type of area is the hotspot in?

I don’t think there are any perfect examples. They all have their own pros and cons. Projects are trying different ways all the time.
At least for genesis tokens the best way to do this IMO is to be letting people mine their bonus tokens and then have some forced vesting period so they cannot dump a huge load of tokens at launch, tanking the price. Dabba has this for example.

The info is out there already for free. But I do hear rumours that there are big contracts about to be signed. Wingbits also seems to have the ability to get more data than the free guys out there, since theres incentives for people to setup machines. There are also special promotions going on where people in very high demand areas can even get units for free. So Wingbits is taking steps to get good coverage. It sounds like there is demand side for this data. But only time will tell.
